St. Stephen’s Cathedral

Arrival Plans Logo

At the centre of Vienna

St. Stephen’s Cathedral is a 12th century medieval church at the heart of Vienna. The gothic cathedral in Stephansplatz is the main Roman Catholic church and the seat of the Archbishop of Vienna. St. Stephen’s has a long, somewhat bumpy history. In fact, the previous church perished in a fire at this exact location. Later, reconstructed and consecrated into the cathedral we see today.

The famous landmark is even more beautiful inside and a must visit in Vienna. If you visit you can find tours, audioguides, towers with incredible viewpoints, and the catacombs below. Also, entry is free if you’re okay with just viewing from the entranceway. However, Arrival Plans recommends purchasing a ticket for access to the towers, catacombs, and to learn about the history and architecture. It should be noted that one of the towers is only accessible on foot – don’t worry it only takes 343 steps to get up there!
